About Bento
“Bento” is from the Japanese word “弁当”, which means the meal box. Historical records show that people in Japan started preparing bentos for eating while out hunting and farming in the 5th century; therefore, those bentos were to remain fresh and tasty when even eaten as-is.
With the significant enhancement of life quality and food sufficiency, bento boxes are nutritionally balanced and aesthetically pleasing now.
Traditional bentos follow a 4-3-2-1 rule:
4 parts rice, 3 parts protein, 2 parts vegetable, and 1 part “treat”.
So, a beautiful bento box always contains well-cooked and decorated noodles or rice, fresh vegetables, meats or protein with rich flavors, and pickles for refreshing.
Because it is not only for feeding but also for a good mood and fantastic enjoyment, a bento chef always needs to have a great passion for designing the bento.
Let’s bento today!
